PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), which is the Oscars’ accounting firm for the last 83 years released a statement taking responsibility for the biggest error and shocker in Oscars’ history, after mistakenly announcing ‘La La Land’ Best Picture by presenters Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway, and the film that truly won the award was ‘Moonlight’. Warren Beatty explained that he was given the wrong envelope, and the one he had was for Best Actress ‘Emma Stone, La La Land’.
Here is the full statement by PricewaterhouseCoopers on the Oscars Shocker:
“We sincerely apologize to Moonlight, La La Land, Warren Beatty, Faye Dunaway, and Oscar viewers for the error that was made during the award announcement for Best Picture. The presenters had mistakenly been given the wrong category envelope and when discovered, was immediately corrected. We are currently investigating how this could have happened, and deeply regret that this occurred.”
We appreciate the grace with which the nominees, the Academy, ABC, and Jimmy Kimmel handled the situation.”
