Mary Queen of Scots will be the first movie to gather two of the most talented young actresses at the moment: Saoirse Ronan and Margot Robbie.
Ronan is set to play the Catholic Queen Marie of Scots in the leading role, while Robbie will play her rival Protestant cousin Queen Elizabeth.
According to Variety, “the drama is based on the true story of Mary Stuart’s attempt to overthrow her cousin Elizabeth I, Queen of England, only to find herself condemned to years of imprisonment before facing execution.”

Mary Queen of Scots movie will be directed by Josie Rourke (Much Ado About Nothing 2011) from a screenplay by Beau Willimon (The Ides of March, House of Cards), Michael Hirst (Elizabeth: The Golden Age, Vikings, The Tudors), Penelope Skinner (How I Live Now also starring Saoirse Ronan). The movie is based on the book by John Guy titled, The True Life of Mary Stuart.
Robbie is recently confirmed to star in the movie ‘Marian’, and she’s returning as ‘Harley Quinn’ in the upcoming movie ‘Gotham City Sirens’ by David Ayer. She is also starring in an untitled movie about the author A.A. Milne and the creation of the Winnie the Pooh stories. And the drama thriller ‘Terminal’, biography ‘I, Tonya’ and the animation movie ‘Peter Rabbit’.
The Oscar-nominated Saoirse Ronan (Atonement, Brooklyn) also has a busy schedule, as she set to star in 5 other films to be released in 2017 and 2018 besides Mary Queen of Scots. There are her upcoming projects: Sweetness in the Belly, Lady Bird, Loving Vincent, On Chesil Beach, The Seagull.
